creations helped re-
establish formerly

the capital of world
fashion.

Each of his
collections
throughout the post-
war period had a
theme. Spring 1947
was "Carolle".
Spring 1953
collection, dubbed
"Tulip,". and Spring
1955's "A-line". By
his final collections,
Dior, feeling the
need for a more
limber silhouette and
lifestyle, was
designing chemises,
narrow tunics, and
sari-like wraps.

Christian Dior
virtually dictated
fashion styles in the
1950’s. He
pioneered license
agreements in the
fashion business. In
1953, he hired Yves
Saint-Laurent as an
assistant. Saint-
Laurent became
head designer after
Dior’s untimely
death in 1957.
