Handbags from Christian Dior are sometimes referred to as “works of art”, the signature Saddle Bag, the Street Chic Bag, and many others, demand the with their unique style, shape, color, and design all created from the finest fabrics and leathers. Born in Normandy France in 1905, this fashion and fragrance legend started off to study political science. By 1938 he had turned to dress design but because of his tour of duty in World War II, he was not able to develop his design business until 1946. His first collection released in 1947 featured a “New Look”; a richer look in contrast to the austerity of war styles which featured luxury rather than comfort. His creations helped re- establish formerly occupied France as the capital of world fashion. Each of his collections throughout the post- war period had a theme. Spring 1947 was "Carolle". Spring 1953 collection, dubbed "Tulip,". and Spring 1955's "A-line". By his final collections, Dior, feeling the need for a more limber silhouette and lifestyle, was designing chemises, narrow tunics, and sari-like wraps. Christian Dior virtually dictated fashion styles in the 1950’s. He pioneered license agreements in the fashion business. In 1953, he hired Yves Saint-Laurent as an assistant. Saint- Laurent became head designer after Dior’s untimely death in 1957. |
